About
Georgios Kounadis was born in Athens in 1959. In 1978 he moved to Hydra, where from 1983 to 1993 he ran the Up and High, a café-gallery showing artists from around the world. He began painting there and first exhibited in 1986.
He later moved to Sydney, ran spaces in the same spirit and organised many exhibitions for other artists. He has painted full-time since 2012. In 2017 he moved his studio into the house in Kifissia where he was born.
In Australia he found his dot, first learned from Aboriginal painting and made his own: dense colour and repetition. He works in acrylic, resin and found material, mostly on panel.
Four series run side by side: Dot Assemblages, Rope Forms, Gestural Abstracts and Colour Strips.
This gallery doesn't exist. It was built to show the work at true size, and to be walked through from anywhere.
